Clean up after the Storm

Clean up after the Storm!

This hurricane season has been devastating for many in the Southeastern part of our country. The intensity and size of the storms have hit proportions never seen before. There were communities and cities caught off guard because they had never been hit or severely impacted by a hurricane, but this time was different.

Trees crashed and tumbled exposing their root system that once kept them grounded. Light poles and wires twisted and snapped, ushering in darkness and heat (no electricity, no ac). Some spaces in our cities were unrecognizable and we struggled to make sense of the devastation.

Then it was time, time to gather and start the clean-up, hauling, cutting, sorting, trashing, and building.

If we are honest, all of us have experienced a life storm. Situations and circumstances that sweep us off our feet, leaving us despondent, discouraged and distraught. A life storm that derailed our plans. A life storm that uprooted everything that held us down. A life storm that took the thing that we loved with our whole heart.

Let me remind you that you are strong enough to clean up after your life storm. Take your time and assess what needs to be done. Then, take it one moment at a time, focusing on doing the next thing well. Remember that the clean-up will mean throwing away some things because you can no longer use them. Sis, throw away discouragement, doubt, and mindsets that kept you bound to less than. It is clean up time, the storm is over! It is time to look for the new opportunity and embrace the new normal. It is time to clear the clutter. It is time to invest in what is going to get you to the next phase. It is time to re-root those things that ground you.

Who is your clean-up crew? The people that bring you relief when you are exhausted from the cleaning. The one that is encouraging you as you dump the trash. The sister friend that is putting on her gloves and standing shoulder to shoulder with you helping to repair what is broken.

We are going to have life storms. As the storm rages and whips, keep looking forward and hold on, because the day will come when the storm stops and you will have to clean up. Be encouraged that in the clean up is restoration…In the clean-up is revitalization…In the clean-up is more space for the new…In the clean-up is beauty…In the clean-up is a new opportunity…In the clean up is a lesson.

Sis, the storm is over, let’s clean up!
