A heart of gratitude is a happy heart. During this season many of us stop and are intentional about demonstrating our gratefulness. However, being grateful and expressions of gratitude should not be limited to just the holiday season.
There are so many things and blessings that I am grateful for each day. Being intentional about acknowledging the wonderful and ordinary things in our lives, lightens the load of life. Rather than expending energy reviewing our lives from a deficit lens, let’s be thankful for what we have. Each day I start my day with just being thankful that my basic needs are being met.
The last two years we have been living in and around a global pandemic, COVID-19. Our lives have been disrupted! I still have not found a word that fully grasps the loss, turmoil, fear, and trauma that this disease has caused us individually and collectively. We sit stunned in the space of survival. But guess what, we are surviving, those of us that are still here, we are surviving. And for that I am thankful!
Many studies have concluded that people with “an attitude of gratitude” are happier, more productive, less stressed, and are able to develop stronger relationships. Let’s count our blessings. Let’s stop and be thankful for what we have and our purpose. Let’s teach our children to be thankful and not accept the false notion of entitlement. Let’s demonstrate kindness and appreciation for what we experience, what we have gained, and those in our lives we can love.
Today, I am thankful for this journey called life. Today and the days to come I will pause to be grateful and appreciate being, becoming, and benefitting.
What are you grateful for…
