I Love You!
Here we are, it’s February! You know what that means, it is time to see lots of red, hearts, teddy bears, chocolates, and flowers. February is a time to celebrate Black History Month and love.
Many of us spend money to demonstrate to others how much we love and appreciate them. Well, I want to remind you not to forget to tell yourself, I love you. Yep, you read that correctly, tell yourself, I love you. Have you ever said, I love you, to yourself?
We have experienced many things in our lives. There are many times that we weren’t kind to ourselves. We stayed in harmful relationships. We didn’t give ourselves the self-care and forgiveness that we deserved. Yet, we make sure that we display love for others. It is time to love you.
In the moments when we are critical of how we are navigating life, please remember to do so with love. If we don’t love ourselves, we can’t truly enter into the space of love for others. It will be one sided and not fully present. Just like we stress doing the little things for others to show love, hey, let’s do it for me and you.
Here are a few ways we can demonstrate self love, consider the following: taking the time to stop and eat a healthy meal, enjoy the company of others, actively pursue activities that refuel our joy and happiness tanks, put up boundaries and even barricades to keep toxic people away from us, don’t be so critical of the things that we want to improve, stop striving for perfection instead strive for purpose.
Here’s the truth, I don’t get excited about Valentine’s Day. Why? I act as if everyday is Valentine’s Day. I want to express my love for my family, friends, and self, throughout the year in a very intentional way. Love is powerful. During our life’s journey, it’s important to speak love, show love, appreciate love, and recognize love.
I hope that you take the time to say these 3 powerful words to yourself, whether out loud or in the silence of your heart, just say it…I Love You.
