Ms. Spider
You won’t believe this, but I went glamping. Yes, I did! It was something that I’ve wanted to experience for a while because I am definitely not a real camper, no bugs and snakes for me. But glamping, yep I can get with that.
During this glamping excursion I had the opportunity to unplug. There wasn’t a television and no cell phone service. Only a landline, to call 911. I shifted to the realization that it was time to shut down and embrace the reset.
Outside of the cabin bedroom window there was a spider. This was a large spider, the size of a tarantula but not as hairy and much slimmer. She spun one of the largest webs I have ever seen. It spanned across two trees. Listen, this web was massive and intricate, I can’t believe I am saying this, but it was beautiful.
The spider stayed in the same position the entire morning. There was something calming about watching the web literally glistening in the morning sun and dew. I made breakfast and came back; she was still there…same place. I watched her and the trees for several hours.
Later, in the afternoon a large wasp flew into the web. She slide down and grabbed the wasp and soon it stopped wiggling. I was mesmerized by how fast she moved, think of a spider sprinter. Next the most incredible thing happened, two smaller spiders slid down to join her. I am guessing these were her kiddos. They joined her and landed on the side of the wasp. Within a few minutes, they scurried back up the web. They were so tiny I couldn’t see them once they left her side. She gracefully moved up and down the web repairing the space that the wasp landed, then back to her position. Minutes before the twilight of night transformed to incomprehensible darkness, I strained to see her, but she remained in her position.
Each morning as I raised the shade, she was still in the exact place when I had bid her goodnight.
On the last day I recognized the lesson of my friend the spider. She waited patiently every day; she did her part of mending her web and then went back to her position. Each day the provision was made for her. She wasn’t scurrying around the web. Ms. Spider didn’t go to another tree and start a new web because she was impatient that the wasp had not come earlier. Everything that she needed was provided, the provision was sent to her. If she had moved, she would have missed it and possibly the wasp would have wiggled away, all because she was out of place.
What if we modeled the simple lesson of the Ms. Spider?
Do your part with excellence, just like her sensational web. e patient while you wait. The exact moment when the chance is presented in front of you be ready to act. The spider was always ready because she didn’t deviate from the plan. Because of her assurance and patience, the ones that were depending on her also got what they needed.
Such an unexpected lesson from my teacher, Ms. Spider.
