Take time to Process It!
Life happens, that is a popular saying. I’ve seen it on coffee mugs, bumper stickers and even on
t-shirts. Yes, it is true.
Life happens with happenings of joy, happenings of trauma, happenings of disappointment, happenings of ecstatic happiness. As life happens, it is easy to take things for granted. That in the moments of life, we just move along as if we are being pushed down stream by the currents of happenings.
I experienced something very upsetting and traumatic a couple of months ago. Initially, I was in the happening mode. The event happened and I was going to just keep it moving. But, my mind demanded that this was not life happening as usual. My body said, no Karen we need to take time to process this. We are not going to stuff it down and keep this cape on your shoulders.
I intentionally, stopped moving, literally sat still and allowed my mind to process the trauma of what I had experienced. When someone asked if I was okay, I said, “No, I’m not”.
I stopped to process what I was feeling in this life happening.
I gave words to my anger.
I gave words to my distress.
I gave words to my physical pain.
I gave words to my gratefulness.
That is how I healed. I paused. I processed. I talked about it and I released it.
I challenge you to take time to process what you have been experiencing as life happens to your mind, spirit, and the essence of you. Stop and hear what the lessons are in the stillness of processing. You may need a licensed counselor to help you process it, please use that resource if you need it. I did and I am feeling better.
When you go through the process of processing, be willing to feel the pain and tame it…be willing to ask for help and accept it without guilt…be willing to be open and vulnerable in order to heal.
Process it because LIFE HAPPENS.
