The Beauty of Reflection
How many times do you look in the mirror during the day? I am guessing at least five times. This excludes when you are driving. I’m talking about the times you’re looking in the mirror to check yourself out, to see how you are looking. Is your hair on point? Do you still have that pimple on the side of your nose? Did you blend in your concealer and is it really hiding that discoloration?
Think about what we do when we take a pic! We snap a bunch of pics, then filter, review, and start over with a new pose, just to get the perfect image. Oh, then the part of someone else taking your pic and the directions you give them, like this is a professional photo shoot, just for the Gram. Trust me, I know this firsthand with our son. I felt like I was on a movie set, with the directions he was giving me. LOL.
What if you took that same interest, excitement and intentionality with noticing and reflecting on the inner you? Trust me, it may be uncomfortable or time consuming, but it is worth it.
Let’s flip the mirror and see the reflection from within. Take time to reflect on what is happening in your thought life. What are those issues that you have buried beneath that social media ready smile? What emotion or need is motivating you to elicit approval from others because you seek to feel better, seen and loved?
The beauty of reflection is that it creates space for truth telling within us. Reflecting on our traumas and how they influence our lives and impact our movement in our world, is a beautiful revelation that will impact our mental wellness and our relationships. You can’t repair and heal if you never excavate it. I challenge all of us to peer beyond the reflected image and seek the deeper beauty of a wholly healed mind and spirit.
Looking beyond the glass…Going beyond the pic…that is where growth happens, and the beauty of reflection is seen.
