Welcome to my blog, Time Out! So, are you wondering why it’s named Time Out?
Some of my most cherished memories as a child, was playing with my cousins. I am an only child, but I grew up in a very large family and was always surrounded by the best cousins! We would play Hide and Seek, Tag, or sometimes we would race each other. These games were fast pace and exhausting, if only I could have that energy now, geesh, anyway we would run and laugh.
Then we would hear it, right there in the middle of the game, TIME OUT! Someone would yell as loud as they could to let us know that they needed a break. We would all stop and wait for that person to either catch their breath, tie their shoe, go to the bathroom or get a cup of water. They knew that they could not continue the pace that they were on either because they were exhausted or need to take care of a personal need. Oh yeah. I figured out that sometimes they were also planning their winning strategy as they knelt to rest or tie their shoes.
I am sure you can relate. There are so many pulls on us, whether its home, work, school, marriage, our faith centers, parenting, etc. All of us need a Time Out. That precious moment to regroup and refuel, to take care of our personal needs. You know what I remember most about the Time Out, no one was angry at the person for letting us know they needed to stop. How refreshing would it be if we had that same kid kindness? Not to judge, but to simply wait for the person to yell, “TIME BACK IN!” (Yeah that is what we said, LOL) and then to reengage with them. I think that’s a lesson we can lift as strong women. That we intentionally foster spaces that encourage rest without judgement, because we will be stronger… emotionally, spiritually and mentally. Also, during this time think about the next move and then get ready to get back in the game.
When was your last Time Out?
I encourage you to take a break, let someone else take the lead for a moment. Exhaustion is not a badge of honor, but a warning. Let’s be intentional about taking a Time Out. This blog will be a Time Out space. A space for encouragement, questioning and inspiration.
Share this website with your friends and cousins, I bet they need a Time Out.
